The Most Necessary Mother’s Day Gift
If you’re a mom, there is a Mother’s Day gift you need. No if, ands, or buts.
If you’re not a mom, I’m guessing you’re a woman. You need it, too.
This gift comes in two parts:
- Knowing and accepting your worth
- Realizing and accepting you are loved…anyway
When received and accepted, this two-part gift comes together and creates a whole heart.
A heart that treats you with respect and forgiveness. A heart that loves deeply. A heart that leaves a legacy for your children to follow.
But there’s one catch.
You must choose to accept them. For it is in receiving that Grace leads you to experience the extraordinary, purpose-filled life you were born to live.
1. Knowing and Accepting Your Worth
There are many types of moms. Birth moms. Adopted moms. Step-moms. Hope-to-be moms. No matter what kind of mom you are or may some day hope to be, believing in your worth matters…especially to your kids.
Sometimes we don’t feel worthy. We get down on ourselves because we forgot something, reacted to something, or failed at something.
The boss doesn’t notice, your spouse doesn’t listen, your kids are doing their thing, and your friends are nowhere to be found. Even God can seem far away. (Though He’s not, by the way.)
Regardless of how your world appears what you must know is your life is not a reflection of your worth. In order to accept your worth you must first accept the answers to these three questions.
➢ Who am I?
You may be a mom, a sister, a wife, a daughter, a friend, a boss, a singer, or a chauffer (maybe all of the above). But you are much more than your roles.
You are a desperately wanted and cherished child of God. If you are a mom, you know what I mean. You, without reservation or explanation, love your children. God, without reservation or explanation, loves you.
You are God’s idea and you have been created just as God intended. You are beautiful and worth every breath God breathes into you.
If you don’t hear it from anyone else, hear it from God.
How great is the love the Father has lavished on us,
that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!
1 John 5:1
Do you know and accept the truth of who you are?
➢ Am I good enough?
Brace yourself for this: There is nothing you can do to be good enough.
In a world where we strive to do more, be more, better, prettier, thinner, smarter, faster, happier, and richer we find in the end, none of it satisfies our desire. And none of it makes us good enough.
In this broken world there remains only one good enough to be perfect. Jesus.
What makes you good enough is accepting His loving sacrifice. Have you?
➢ Do I make a difference?
There are times in our lives when the struggle has been long, the wounds deep, and we get to the point of wondering how in the world we make a difference. Here’s how.
When we create things, we have a purpose in mind for them.
A picture isn drawn or photo taken to provide beauty and memories…to frame and hang on the wall. A vase is shaped and fired to hold flowers, Clothes are designed to cover and protect wear, and delicious meals are made to nourish and enjoy. Everything is made for a purpose.
You are made for a purpose, too. God created you uniquely. You have your own special DNA, your own fingerprints, your own style and sense of humor…you are different so you can make a difference in the way only you can.
Whether you feel like you make a difference or not isn’t the point. What matters is the difference you make. And the way you make that difference is by accepting and being truly you.
Do you know your unique purpose and the difference you make?
2. Realizing and Accepting You are Loved…Anyway
You and I make mistakes. We have bad habits. We wander down the wrong roads and we’ve been known to make wrong decisions. Not all the time but enough to know and experience some or a lot of shame. A tough topic just before Mother’s Day ~ but one that is deeply felt ~ and its healing brings new life.
Researcher and speaker Dr. Brene Brown says this about shame.
Shame is the intensely painful feeling that we are unworthy of love and belonging. It’s the most primitive human emotion we all feel—and the one no one wants to talk about. If left to its own devices shame can destroy lives.
Being vulnerable and sharing guilt and shame with others helps. But surrendering shame at the foot of the cross is the one place, and the cross-bearer is the one Person that bring restoration, peace, and joy.
Regardless of where you’ve been or what you’ve done, there is One who will always, always love you anyway.
Do you believe this?

Will you accept your gift?
